HUNDREDS of people gathered in the centre of Burley-in-Wharfdale on Saturday, November 26 to witness the turning on of yet another spectacular Christmas light display and to spend time enjoying the street market, craft fair, fairground, and meeting Santa in his sleigh outside The Grange.
A spokesperson said: "This year was very poignant for our special guests who were invited to turn on our Christmas lights. Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust invited our friends from Ukrainian who are living with their hosts in the village to press the coveted plunger to light up the village.
"Whilst the circumstances of their situation are well reported, it was felt that helping our wonderful community lighting up our village may help lighten up their hearts and give them something to remember when they return to their homeland."
