ON a sublime day 'Ensians' entertained York. R. I. in a weekend clash in the Yorkshire League Four division.

Unfortunately, York could not raise a front row which resulted in uncontested scrums, but at this level the result stood.

The opening encounters were scrappy, however, York blinked first conceding a penalty in their own 22 which was duly scored by Jake Bentley . This stirred the home team and after good forward play and slick passing by the backs, Will Howarth outpaced the defence to score a fine try in the corner, which was converted by Bentley to give 'Ensians' a 10-0 lead .

Not to be outdone York came back with a couple of minutes to go in the half when their player twisted out of a tackle to score an unconverted try in the corner.

From the restart the home team were awarded a further penalty duly slotted over by Jake Bentley to give 'Ensians' a half-time lead of 13-5.

In the second half 'Ensians' took control and after ten minutes ,when they obtained the ball from a York attack in the home 22 ,Will Cooper kicked ahead followed up speedily by Connor Bateman who collected the ball to score an unconverted try.

The home team were now playing with the light breeze, with full back Will Cooper and stand off Olly Eaves using accurate high kicks throughout the half to force York back into defensive territory. From a resulting kick, the home team regained possession and with good passing and an overlap, Jake Bentley scored an unconverted try to give a lead of 23-5.

Speedy winger Will Howarth capitalised on a York kicking error to race clear and touch down for a converted Bentley try.

Howarth still had time to add more points for 'Ensians' as he went over the touchline to give them a deserved 35-5 victory.
