ONE of the most popular one day transport rallies in the UK takes place on Sunday (September 11th) from 10am to 4pm at Knotford Nook, Pool Road, Otley.

Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza which has been held for 24 occasions on this site, will see almost 600 vehicles and around 100 stalls assemble.

Along with the vehicles and stalls there will be entertainment in the form of Otley Brass band, the City of Leeds Pipe band, an accordion band as well as more up to date music from local artists and a fairground organ.

There will be birds of prey, Punch and Judy, reptiles, food vans and a special visit by guests from Ukraine.

Councillor Nigel Francis, chair and main organiser of the Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza said: “I am delighted to have many people visiting our rally for the first time, especially our friends from the Ukraine. I understand that they are hoping to charter a double decker bus and come along. We also hope that they will have a couple of stalls with their items on such as t-shirts, mugs, etc and possibly food for people to try, and make a donation towards Ukraine. We at the OVTE hope to donate some funds towards an ambulance for their country.

"Let me say again, even at this late stage, any Ukraine displaced families are welcome to come along and they will be admitted free of charge. If a local group wishes to have a stall and raise some money for their country, then they will be made more than welcome.

"The real stars are the vehicles with some classic cars from the last 100 years, lorries to take you back in time, light commercials to jog the memory and push bikes and motor bikes from yesteryear."

“This year we have had to close all vehicle and stall entries as the are fully booked. This is the first time ever that this has happened in the history of the rally," added Callum Francis, committee member.

Admission is adult: £5, concession: £4. Children under 14 free if accompanied by an adult. There is plenty of free car parking available and a Transdev A3 Flyer bus will be leaving Otley bus station at 9.30am and every hour after that travelling along Pool Road. There is a bus stop outside the field so people can leave their cars at home and travel by bus to the event.
