EIGHT Wharfedale students at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) are celebrating a clean sweep of top grades of 7 or higher in all of their GCSE subjects today (Thursday, 25 August).

They are: Angus Davies, Alice Locker and Amy Brown-Carrera from Ilkley, Henry Smith from Stainburn, Emily Bang, Sam Gordon, Salah Siraj from Bramhope and Theo Wood from Headingley.

Over 70% of GCSE grades awarded to students at The Grammar School at Leeds were at 7 or above. More than half (52 per cent) of all grades were at 8 and 9, with 31 per cent at the highly sought-after grade 9.

Thirty-seven students scooped grade 8s or 9s in 10 or more subjects, including eleven who secured the top grade of 9 in all of their GCSEs.

Principal Sue Woodroofe said: “I am extremely proud of our GCSE students and they thoroughly deserve these results. They have seen their education disrupted due to the pandemic but they have impressed everyone with their commitment, hard-work and enthusiasm. As a cohort they have been supported and encouraged by staff and their families, and most importantly one another. Their experience over the past two and a half years will be a source of strength for their A-level studies, and I look forward to continuing to seeing these young people grow and develop in sixth form.”
