A Wharfedale nursery is celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

Jolly Tots Pre-School Nursery, based in Burley-in-Wharfedale, was praised for its outstanding' leadership, teaching and management skills.

Inspectors highlighted the high quality of teaching and learning at the nursery, where children were keen to learn and participate in a range of activities.

The report states: "Staff use an exceptional range of teaching methods with the children to support their learning across the curriculum. The children have excellent levels of concentration and imagination and, on occasions, offer and extend their ideas through their play."

The report points to the first class' encouragement given to children to develop writing and mathematical skills and to become more independent in everyday activities.

It says: "Children are happy and secure and have excellent personal and social skills, developed through staff being outstanding role models."

It also praised the excellent facilities provided at the nursery as well as its focus on healthy eating and hygiene, health and safety, good organisational skills of staff and excellent leadership skills.

The report states: "Staff are highly motivated in the planning for the curriculum to help children develop. The teaching methods highly motivate the children."

Children, it says, are welcomed and valued at the nursery and staff are responsive to their individual needs. Their behaviour is exceptional, with staff presenting positive role models for children in taking turns and sharing.

The report says: "Youngsters' understanding of right and wrong is increased with gentle reminders to respect and care for resources and their environment, and children are polite and respectful."

The nursery, based at Queen's Hall Cottage, Main Street, caters for 78 children from the age of two to five years. It is open from Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm and offers both full-time and sessional care for all children.

Owner of the nursery, Sarah Constantine, said: "Our main aim has always been for the children to feel safe and secure in our care, then, through the commitment and dedication of our staff and support from their parents, for the children to flourish and enjoy learning through a range of practical and fun activities.

"We are delighted with the findings of the report. It's always nice to have hard work recognised."
