A HIT and run driver who failed to stop after a road accident has been disqualified from driving for six months and must pay over £2,220 in fines and court costs.

Gavan Duffy, 49, of Corn Mill Lane, Burley in Wharfedale, had his case proved in his absence at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on December 2 last year in that he failed to stop after a collision while driving a blue Land Rover and failed to offer his name and address and ID of the owner of the vehicle.

Magistrates also proved him guilty of failing to report a road accident within 24 hours of the incident occurring.

The road incident occurred on July 20 last year in St Anne's Road, Leeds, where damage was caused to a Ford vehicle.

Appearing before Bradford magistrates for sentencing on July 25, Duffy was fined £1,923 and ordered to pay costs of £110 and a surcharge of £190. As well as the ban his licence was endorsed with five penalty points.

No separate penalty was given for failing to report the accident but his driving record was endorsed.

Magistrates ordered the balance of £2,223 to be paid by August 22.
