A CLIMATE action group wants to remind Ilkley residents that they can now borrow an e-cargo bike for free to help the environment.

Climate Action Ilkley acquired two e-cargo bikes and a bike trailer earlier this year after a successful bid to the People’s Post Code Lottery. These are available to hire out to residents, businesses and organisations in the areas.

Kath Steward of Climate Action Ilkley said: “The purpose of the bikes is to encourage people to borrow them to carry heavy or bulky loads so they are used to carry shopping, transporting goods or making deliveries instead of using their cars.

“We have had a few people using them but we would like to remind people that they are there and ready to be used for free, and would like to see more businesses using them for deliveries too.”

ECargo bikes can take loads of up to 130kg and the bike trailer can carry an additional 150kg.

The bikes are located in South Hawksworth Street car park in Ilkley town centre in a storage hangar which was funded through the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund, via West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
