ILKLEY Soroptimists collected all these items of single-use packaging over a few short weeks to demonstrate how much is normally just sent to landfill. The collection of blister packs from pills, containers, crisp packets, plastic bread bags and so on were brought by club members for this photo before being taken to specialist local recycling places. Angela St John says, “All the clubs across our International Federation of clubs were asked to focus on climate change and try to draw attention to the appalling waste caused by single-use plastic items.” Blister packs were taken to the Superdrug store in Harrogate for recycling as a club member found out any Superdrug with a pharmacy would take them.

“We were all amazed by how much we had collected that could be re-cycled,” said Sue Butler. Sue will take much of the rest to Milestone Design Ltd who act as a recycling point on Leeds Road, Ilkley.
