PINSUTI Chamber Choir presents a summer concert: Fiesta Musica on Saturday, July 16th at 7.30pm at St Andrews Church Hall, Skipton

Pinsuti are celebrating summer with an evening of music from Central and South America, featuring Pinsuti and Brazilian fusion band Tempo Feliz. It’s an evening designed to be energetic, enjoyable and fun.

The first half has Pinsuti singing three contrasting works, all drawing on the music and traditions of Argentina and Central America.

They will start with the six “Indianas” by Carlos Guastavino, written in 1967. These are settings of poems, about nature, love and life, to music infused with Argentinian folk traditions. For this mix of lively and more tranquil pieces Pinsuti will be accompanied by the piano.

The tempo, century and style then returns to Pinsuti’s more familiar roots of unaccompanied early music with “Ave Regina”, an eight part work for double choir, written by the Spanish-born Mexican composer, Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, in around 1640.

The biggest piece of the evening is the “Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramirez. This popular piece was written in 1963, setting the Spanish Mass to music inspired by folk music and dances from throughout South America, such as the vidala-baguala dance rhythm of northern Argentina for the Kyrie, the Credo inspired by the chacerera trunca from central Argentina, and rhythms from Bolivia for the Sanctus. It is a fabulous, often fast moving piece with lively solo passages, call and response sections and percussion.

In the second half Pinsuti hand over to the high-energy Brazilian fusion band Tempo Feliz.

A spokesperson for Pinsuti said: “They will have us all up dancing to their unique interpretations of classic Brazilian standards and their own original grooves. As this is something we hope will appeal to a wide range of ages, tickets are priced accordingly, with a limited number of discounted tickets for under 30s and under 18s. Bring your friends! There will be a non-alcoholic bar available throughout the evening.”

Tickets £15/under 30s: £10/under 18s: £5 on Eventbrite or from choir members https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fiesta-musica-tickets-369471688767.

It takes its name from the little known Victorian composer Ciro Pinsuti. They sing a range of largely unaccompanied music from the 16th century to present day, both sacred and secular.
