BURLEY Theatre Group is proud to be back with its first comedy stage play since lockdown and presents the zany, quirky and hilarious comedy Improbable Fiction written by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by David Hardman.

This entertaining show has been a real-life family affair with three married couples involved in the production. Thankfully though the only strife has been onstage!

A truly madcap, topsy-turvy romp, featuring much comedy and even some singing, dancing and live music, Improbable Fiction is Alan Ayckbourn’s 69th play.

The inspiration for the play was supposedly from a talk that Alan once gave to a writers’ circle, which he suspected was actually more of a social circle!

The title was inspired by a quote from William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night:”If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as improbable fiction.” – Twelfth Night, Act III, scene 4

Set around a monthly writers’ group meeting, each character has individual challenges and collective writers’ block.

However, with a little bit of inspiration this all changes as the chairperson Arnold, appears to wander into the imaginations of the other writers - or was it all a dream...

Performances are at the Queen’s Hall, Burley-in-Wharfedale on Thursday, June 30, Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 at 7:30pm.
