‘WE’RE being misled on a daily basis, and it’s dangerous’ says Steve Peel, of Climate Action Ilkley who is clear that ‘green’ claims in adverts and on products need to be challenged or they will result in yet more environmental damage.

Anne Cuthbertson, of Plastic Free Ilkley said: "We’ve set up a meeting, open to anyone interested, to talk about the problem. We’ve called it Greenwashing – are we being conned? It’s in the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley, on Wednesday 22 June at 7.30pm.

"The guest speaker will be Martin Hyde, sustainability expert who was recently recognised in the Hot 100 of professionals working in the recycling industry. People can bring along products or adverts to illustrate the difficulties we all face as consumers."

Gwen Pilling, of Ilkley U3A Environment Forum added: "Most people do not have access to the necessary information to check some of the environmental claims being made for products. So, it is important that we are aware of the problem and that claims are checked and supported by robust evidence."

The free event is hosted jointly by Climate Action Ilkley, Plastic Free Ilkley and the U3A Environment Forum. It will be interactive with plenty of time for questions and reactions.
