ILKLEY and District Riding Association is paying tribute to the Queen during May and June to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations.

During the May points show every competitor was invited into the main ring for a spectacular grand parade.

A spokesperson said: "There must have been at least 60/70 participating, it was just amazing! Sky Sports Racing Presenter, Vanessa Ryle, judged a horse and a pony she would like to take home. The winners received a stunning jubilee rosette and sash both in the Jubilee colours.

"Vanessa - originally from Ilkley - was such fun and really interacted with the crowd - as we had a microphone in the ring - giving them a little history of the time she competed at Ilkley and how she has become a valued member of the team at Sky Sports Racing. She was thrilled with her decision and of course, so were the lucky winners."

The Junior Winner was nine year old Sophia Cardis on Fudge Brownie from Pool in Wharfedale who has been riding for three years.

The Senior Winner was Will Scarlett from Barnoldswick with his horse Josh who joined the Association in 2015.

The IDRA spokesperson added: "It was certainly the highlight of the day and even in the club's history, as we have never done anything like this in the 49 years! We all sang God Save the Queen before the competitors left the ring. For me, I felt the atmosphere on the showfield in celebration of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee was extremely moving, especially as we know how much horses mean to The Queen. This was our very own Pageant!

"We also have a selfie Jubilee Frame whereby we are inviting people to take photos then we shall announce the winner at our Presentation Evening at the King's Hall in November. There are plenty of props to wear and such fun to see the various images that the members are sending in to us!"

The next show is on Sunday (June 19) when there will be a fancy dress grand parade with the theme 'Fit for a Queen'.

There will be two categories; Juniors and Seniors either ridden or in hand. Both winners will receive a Jubilee Rosette and Sash plus rosettes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th placings.
