THE Clarke Foley Jubilee Spinathon is now nearly on target to deliver 70 hours of non-stop spinning from 5pm on Wednesday, June 1 to 3pm on Saturday, June 4.

Many people have signed up to help including local community leaders and Ilkley's MP Robbie Moore.

Participants will cycle on a bike based outside the community centre during the day, with another situated indoors in the Wright Room for the overnight shifts.

The Spinathon Fundraising Event: Cycling for 70 hours to mark 70 years will celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and raise funds for the centre.

Stuart Hyde, voluntary Chair of the Clarke Foley Trustees Board, who is hoping to do 24 of the 70 hours on the spin bikes, said: “This is an amazing opportunity to commemorate 70 years of service by Her Majesty the Queen. We would love people to come down and share what we are trying to achieve.

"We are nearly there with riders but have a few gaps and would like to ask local people to help us. The Clarke Foley serves the whole community as a centre providing events, parties, learning, recreation and much needed help and care for our older members, but we are here for everyone. We are a charity and really need to improve our sound and video systems to meet the needs of all our users. Please join in and please support us, especially the many volunteers who give up their time to help others.”

Robbie Moore MP said: "It is a privilege to be taking part in Clarke Foley Community Centre’s Fundraising Spinathon, one of several fantastic events happening in the local area to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

"This is being done for an exceptional cause, given all that the Clarke Foley centre do for local people. The funds raised will go towards the much-needed upgrade of the Clarke Foley’s audio-visual equipment throughout their rooms and halls to benefit their users and visitors, and I really would urge anyone to donate for this fantastic cause.”
