A WELL-attended race night in aid of Ukraine was held on Sunday at The Flying Duck in Ilkley.

Nine races took place and guests enjoyed a pizza supper and cream scones. The event raised £1,287 which will be going to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the Ilkley Ukraine support group.

Some of the money will assist the ten Ukrainian families now living in Addingham, Burley and Ilkley and ten more families who are arriving, who will also be supported by Ilkley and Surrounds Support for Ukrainian Evacuees (ISSUE)

A small fund has been established in association with Community Action Ilkley to assist with things such as sponsored day places to Dan’s Den to help Ukrainian toddlers and pre-school children to integrate and helping with transport needs.

If you wish to support this fund contact Peter Mate on email at: councillormate@towncouncil.ilkley.org or David Shaw, chair of Ilkley Community Network on email at: davidshawmbe@outlook.com

David Shaw said: "We are very grateful to the sponsors of the races who had each race named after them and to the landlord of The Flying Duck Gerard and his staff for looking after us so well."

The sponsors were: U Dentistry; Ideal Extraction; Bini Brew; Ilkley Brewery; Wharfedale Brewery; Dale Eddison; Linley & Simpson; Ison Harrison Solicitors and Furniss Butchers.
