FOUR Ilkley Cycling Club riders successfully tackled the perimeter of Yorkshire in just three days, raising money for Alzheimers Society and Land Aid.
Starting in Scarborough on Friday morning, Rob Ormrod, Mark Bourgeois, Kevin Wilson and Mel Hartley rode over 500 miles, climbing 32,000 ft, arriving back at the North Yorkshire coastal town on Sunday to a rowdy group of supporters.
Rob Ormrod said: "It was a brutal ride in places. There are some big climbs in Yorkshire! That said, by cycling it, you really do appreciate the beauty of this incredible county. We are enormously grateful for the generosity that people have shown towards LandAid and Alzheimer's Society."
Mark Bourgeois said: "I'm glad it’s over! We had brilliant support on the way and were particularly happy to see Rob's mum and dad, Hilary and John en-route. John suffers from Alzheimer's, so it gave us a huge lift to see him out on the road, reminding us why we were there."
Mel Hartley said: "We passed some great spots and experienced all the weather that Yorkshire can offer! From the literal Sunshine Café in Withernsea to the mist, wind and rain of Tan Hill in the Yorkshire Dales.”
Kevin Wilson said: “My highlight was day three on the flatlands north of the Humber estuary. The sun was shining and despite heading into a stiff easterly, the pace was good as he headed for Spurn Point."
So far the four have raised nearly £5,130. For donations go to: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mark-bourgeois
