A FORMER beauty shop could become a café and sandwich shop after plans were submitted to "bring something different" to Yeadon.

The application, if granted, would see the shop become a café with external seating to the front.

The plans also include a single-storey rear extension, a single-side extension and the first floor of the building being converted into a flat.

The business, in Henshaw Lane, most recently has operated as Beauty Supplies 2 U, and is described in the plans as being in a “prominent position within the residential area of Yeadon”.

The plans add: “The property at ground floor level has been a beauty supplies business for around two years, prior to this it was an off licence and mini market.”

The applicant, a Mr TW Kong from Eccleshill, said: “I intend to open a café and sandwich shop on the ground floor offering tea, coffee, sandwiches, hot food and desserts to be served and consumed on the premises with a secondary takeaway element.

“This will involve the construction of a single-storey flat roof extension to the rear which will house the kitchen facilities.

“To the side and along the line of the existing fence it is proposed to construct a small lean too structure to house the bins and to form additional storage.

“The applicant proposes the business to be run as a community hub for local residents, offering facilities to include internet access, USB ports and daily papers to create a modern welcoming environment.

“The business is not intended to provide competition to existing food cafes and sandwich shops in the area but is to provide something different for the benefit of local people.

“Local suppliers will be used for consumable products where possible.

“The proposals have been discussed with local residents who have shown enthusiasm for this type of business.

“It is considered the proposal can only have a positive effect on the vitality of the area.

“The client intends to invest substantially with a full internal refurbishment, and it is also intended to provide a small area of external tables.”

The café would create two full-time jobs if approved, with a one-bedroom flat on the first floor. The proposed opening hours would be 6am to 6pm seven days a week.

Inside there would be seating for up to 20 people, with a further 16 seats outdoors, and two off-street parking spaces.
