THREE deserving causes have each received £1,000 thanks to a charitable fund set up by a housebuilder.

Broadgate Primary School in Horsforth, Roundhay Primary School, and Friends of Otley Lido received the funds from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, which donates up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK every month.

The funds were awarded from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire and will see Roundhay Primary improve their outdoor play equipment while Broadgate Primary School will use the donation to help create a new library.

The Friends of Otley Lido will put the funds towards its project to regenerate the former Otley baths into a modern-day lido.

Broadgate Primary School lost its library after it was changed into a new classroom to meet local demand. Stacey Lalande for the school’s PTA said: “Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable the school to create a brand-new standalone library which is desperately needed.”

Sarah Langli from The Friends of Otley Lido said: “We are a team of volunteers who are on an exciting journey to establish the former Otley baths for the benefit of the community. Having secured a rent free 125-year lease from Leeds City Council and we are actively fundraising to help cover all the associated building costs. Persimmon Homes’ support is a great boost to our efforts.”

Joanne Kelly from Roundhay Primary School said: “The effects of Covid has limited the children’s team sport activities. Our aim is to improve this and help get the children physically active in a fun way. Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable us to get new playground goals and a bag of sporting equipment for each class.”

Under The Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, the West Yorkshire regional business provides financial support of up to £1,000 to two local charities or good causes, every month.

Christopher Hull, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, added: “Community Champions is all about supporting the local community. These three groups are perfect examples of just that.”
