A MEMORIAL plaque has been installed in Ilkley to recognise and remember those that were lost or suffered as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A fundraising appeal was set up in March to raise money to install a permanent
tribute to those who have died during the pandemic in Ilkley and Ben Rhydding, and this has now come to fruition.

The funds raised by residents are also being used to plant a ‘Cherry Tree Walk’ on an area of parkland by the Old Bridge, as it is a “perfect, discrete area away from the hustle bustle”, said Cllr Anne Hawkesworth.
Moss & Moor Garden Centre in Ilkley has donated cherry trees and daffodils for the purpose.
The area committee has also allocated money to lay a path across the land.
Cllr Hawkesworth added: “I am pleased to report that all is falling into place, and there will be a small public dedication in spring.”

Ward councillor Kyle Green said: "I’m delighted to see this memorial and thank you plaque is now in place. The remembrance and thank you area is now moving closer to completion and it wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing donations from residents.

"I believe when completed it will be a place to reflect as well  as remember those who tragically died. I am also pleased we have been able to use the plaque to thank those who helped our community during the height of the pandemic and am pleased to have been able to work with Cllr Hawkesworth on this project and look forward to seeing it completed soon."
