THE Great British Bake Off continued with its sixth episode of the series last night.

The amateur bakers were challenged with the much anticipated Pastry Week, which saw them bake an array of delicious pastry snacks.

The bakers had to tackle a signature chouxnut, technical baklavas, and showstopper terrine pies to get through to next week.

Here is Sandy Docherty’s verdict of week six’s episode, as she continues her weekly Telegraph & Argus column which will be online each Wednesday while the series is on.

Sandy took part in the 2015 series and is the child protection and welfare officer at Titus Salt School in Baildon.

On Pastry Week, Sandy says:

“I do like the challenges because they're things you want to go and have a go at. I do make pies but it's made me think I want to have another go at a hot water crust pastry."

"Once again, we don't have a bad baker amongst them. Nobodies got a disaster on their hands which is nice to see."

Task 1. Chouxnuts

"I liked the chouxnuts, for a different take than the yeast thing."

Task 2. Baklava

"I thought the technical baklava was a very difficult balance, who makes filo pastry? I know I could but then again, why would you when you can buy it so well?"

"When you're looking at the technical, I always look at the timing because if the timing is not too long, then the challenge is quite doable."

Task 3. Terrine pie

"Once again, there wasn't a bad pie amongst them"

"There were some great flavours and great tastes, I loved Lizzie's it was just simply lovely."

"I think the star baker going to Krystelle was just well deserved. Her pie just blew them away, to get a hand-shake for a showstopper is no mean defeat."

On the baker that left:

"Poor Amanda, I like her because I feel as though Amanda is very clever and very talented but she'd have done that pie no problem at home. Sometimes it's not always a good thing to concentrate."

"It was sad to see her go but she epitomises Bake-Off because she had a good time and I think having a good time is ultimately what it's all about."

"George was very very lucky"

Going forwards

"Next week is caramel week so we'll see what happens with that,"

"I predict it will be hot and sticky and there may be a few burns around the place."

"Now we're past the halfway point, Paul and Prue will start to be more critical and start to analyse more and they won't let things slide as much."
