An enthusiastic audience member who took to the stage at Derren Brown’s show in Bradford has come forward to tell her story of what it was like to be hypnotised by the illusionist.
Lucy Meynell, 24 from Knaresborough, Harrogate attended the opening night on October 5th at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford and was one of the lucky audience members who took part in the tricks on the stage.
Brown's shows largely rely on audience participation.
Lucy, who has been a life-long fan of Brown, said: “I’ve always wanted to see him, I’ve watched all his TV shows and read his books, it was amazing to get the chance to not just see him but to be involved.”
Although the tricks in the show must be kept a ‘closely-guarded secret’ Lucy explained what a ‘strange sensation’ she felt, and what an amazing experience it was.
She added: “It was just so weird, very bizarre, I just remember falling asleep and something had vanished”
“It was very unlike me because usually, I have a very good memory, it was such a cool experience.”
She added that she wasn’t sure what to expect from the performance, but it was ‘better than she could’ve imagined.’
Afterwards, Lucy said she and the people on stage with her were ‘checked out' in a side room by Brown’s team, to ensure that they were okay and ‘back to normal before being sent back to their seats.
She said she ‘felt quite relaxed’ and although she didn’t have any ‘strange after effects’ her mum told her that she had ‘wide pupils’ but she concluded that ‘might’ve just been from the shock’.
Lucy said that anyone else going to see the show should 'expect the unexpected'.
She added: "I went with a completely open mind, and don’t be scared, it is quite a nerve-wracking thing because some of his stuff is unexplainable and you don’t know what to expect with him.
“He does do some dark stuff but how he did this show was very clever, nothing was too ‘out there' but you still think how on earth did he do that?”
She said that she will ‘definitely be going again when she gets the chance.’
