SILSDEN Methodist Church is hosting a Quilt and Flower Festival including the first northern showcase of quilts featured in the book: Quilting with Liberty Fabrics, by Jenni Smith.

The event will run from Friday, October 1 to Sunday, October 3 with proceeds going to Sue Ryder Manorlands and church funds.

The event at the church runs from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday and 12.30pm to 4pm on the Sunday. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

A book lecture on Friday evening starts at 7pm. Tickets are £5 including refreshments. They are available from Twiggs Newsagents, Silsden, or by ringing: 01535 657256 or 01535 930109.

Jenni attended Cowling and South Craven schools and is now a teacher, quilter and dressmaking pattern designer with a busy studio in Ilkley. She has loved Liberty Fabrics since visiting their mill shop in Lancashire as a child and is excited to have had their support in the creation of her debut book.

The quilts were showcased in a gallery at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham in August and will displayed for the first time in the north, along with arrangements by local flower arrangers during the event in Silsden.

The lecture is a visual feast from Victorian England to the current day, celebrating art and craftsmanship via Arthur Liberty, William Morris and pioneering members of the Liberty Design Studio.

The book took over two years to produce and in this live lecture Jenni will share some of the dramas, laughter and tears along the way.

Get inspired to start sewing with some free patchwork demonstrations by Jenni and feel free to bring your own quilt projects for an informal 'show and tell'.

There will be patchwork goodies to buy including signed copies of Jenni’s book and a raffle to win a Lone Star quilt featured in Today’s Quilter Magazine earlier this year, worth over £800.
