A "SUSPICIOUS package" which led to evacuations and the bomb squad being called turned out to be "nothing of concern", West Yorkshire Police has confirmed this morning.

Police were called to a report of a possible explosive device at an address on Barkly Road, Beeston, Leeds, just after 2pm yesterday.

A cordon was put in place and homes in the area were evacuated, as officers liaised with army bomb disposal experts.

The item was subsequently found to be nothing of concern and the cordons were removed shortly before 11.30pm.

West Yorkshire Police has thanked everyone affected for their patience during the disruption, which it adds was necessary for public safety.
