LOCAL daredevils took on a thrilling zip wire ride over Ilkley Moor to raise vital funds for two Sue Ryder hospices in Yorkshire.
The one-off ‘Zip the Cow’ event, which was originally due to take place in 2020 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19, saw brave individuals climb the iconic ‘cow’ at the Cow and Calf Rocks above Ilkley, before whizzing 270m down Ilkley Moor at speeds of up to 40mph.
Proceeds from the event will go to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice near Keighley and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds.
Ilkley Town Councillor and Rotarian Peter Mate, 70, was one of those taking part.
He said:“As my children frequently say, I get dafter every day. At my age, I reclaim the right to do daft things once in a while, I’ve earned that right over many years."
Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale this week presented a cheque for £1,000 to Sue Ryder fundraiser Andrew Wood, following a recent day collecting outside the local Tesco store.
