PEOPLE in Otley are being urged to object to a major housing scheme after the deadline for comment was extended.

Town councillor Mick Bradley said: "You still have time to object to the enormous housing development planned for East of Otley. There have been more than 600 objections already and the closing date has been extended to Wednesday, August 4.

"Now the heat has subsided and we are able to think clearly again, take a few minutes to make your objections known to HPA: 21/01671/OT"

Mr Bradley has written an open letter to East of Otley Consortium whose main partners are Persimmon and Leeds City Council.

He said: "My letter asks 15 important and direct questions which the current Hybrid Planning Application (HPA), despite containing 3,700 pages of documents, fails to answer. I would welcome a detailed response to any or all of the concerns raised."

Among his objections he says he wants to see the wishes of the residents in the Otley Neighbourhood Plan (ONP) be respected. He stressed that the plan was supported by 90 per cent of residents who voted in the 2020 referendum."

He also asks: "Why build 700 houses having consulted only a few months earlier on 550?"
