THESE are the postcode areas across the region where the number of new cases have fallen compared to the week before.

Northern Echo analysis of latest figures for the North East and North Yorkshire has shown where in the region a downwards trend has been reported this week.

It comes as the North East is still continuing to see the highest Covid rates across the country as hospitalisations remain on the rise.

The figures, which still show new Covid cases are being reported across every part of the region, compare this week's case numbers with the previous week.

That then shows whether cases are generally going up, down, or are remaining the same, and indicates what the situation is like on an almost-street level.

Out of 373 postcode across all 14 council areas, a total of 114 postcodes have seen a reduction in the number of new Covid cases in the week leading to July 17.

In contrast in the previous week, the seven days to July 10, just 43 postcodes across the region saw a fall in the number of new Covid cases reported.

But although more areas are now seeing a downward trend, there is still cause for concern as thousands of new cases are being reported every week.

Currently, the North East has an infection rate of 981.4 cases per 100,000 people, the highest in England by a significant stretch.

The Yorkshire and The Humber region, which has seen its infection rate climb to 634.8 cases per 100,000, is now the second-highest in England for infections.

Meanwhile, hospitalisation figures for the region showed there were currently 943 patients being cared for with Covid, up by 239 in just seven days.

Admissions into ICU for the use of ventilators has also increased from 82 to 109 over the same time period.

But to give you the picture where you are, we've rounded up the 114 postcodes where the number of new infections have fallen in the past week.
