A CYGNET on Larkfield Dam, Rawdon, was rescued on Tuesday by Yorkshire Swan & Wildlife Rescue Hospital.

The cygnet, one of nine, was found in difficulties by a local resident and assistance was provided by YSWRH. The rescue boat and members of Rawdon Model Boat Club helped free the bird and bring it ashore.

Pam Fairburn (in striped top) with other team members checked it out with the aid of a metal detector and suspect a fishing hook or other object was inside.

It has been taken to the Wildlife Hospital in Selby for treatment.

Mike Woodcock RMBC member and member of Aireborough Camera Club said: “Members of RMBC wish to thank all those involved in the care and protection of wildlife around the water. “

Yorkshire Swan Rescue Hospital is a charity run by volunteers and veterinary surgeons to the rescue injured swans and wild animals.
