OTLEY Courthouse's Saturday morning knitting group had two reasons to celebrate at the weekend.

The gradual reopening of the town's Arts and Resource Centre meant that they could return to their regular weekend haunt after months of enforced lockdown absence.

A spokeswoman said: "The chance to meet, knit and chat over a drink from the Courthouse cafe was extremely welcome.

"The hot, sunny weather also meant that they could sit outside and do full justice to 'Worldwide Knit in Public Day' - alongside hundreds of other knitters in 18 countries."

The event was started in 2005 as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. It is the largest knitter run event in the world.

The event's website says: "WWKIPDAY is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way."
