GUISELEY and Rawdon has a new ward councillor after Conservative Paul Alderson was elected to Leeds City Council.

Cllr Alderson replaces fellow Conservative Pat Latty who is retiring after more than a decade in office. The new councillor is a father of two and is local to Guiseley.

He said: "I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone across the Guiseley and Rawdon Ward who voted for me in the Leeds City Council Elections.

"It is an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to stand and represent the best interests of our area as a Leeds City Councillor.

"From the very start I based my campaign on local issues that impact local people, and I can assure you this will be my priority for the next three years.

"As I begin my term it would be unjust to forget my predecessor Cllr Pat Latty, who has helped achieve so much for the Ward since first being elected back in 2010. I wish Pat a very happy and well deserved retirement."

There was no change in Otley and Yeadon, Horsforth and Rawdon, and Adel and Wharfedale, where the sitting councillors were re-elected.

After being voted back in Otley and Yeadon Liberal Democrat councillor Sandy Lay said: "I would like to thank the residents of Otley and Yeadon for once again re-electing me to represent them on Leeds City Council.

" I'm pleased, honoured and humbled in their trust and faith and I promise to continue to work hard and passionately to make our community better as we continue to return to some semblance of normality.

Adel and Wharfedale ward councillor Conservative Caroline Anderson said: "I was absolutely delighted to be re-elected again in Adel and Wharfedale and to have the trust and confidence of the voters. I was doubly pleased to get over 50 per cent of the vote. I will continue to work hard for everyone, irrespective of who people vote for.ā€

Horsforth and Rawdon councillor Conservative Jonathon Taylor thanked everyone who had helped make his election success possible - and he also paid tribute to Horsforth Town councillor Matt Leech who died recently.

He said: "Thank you to everyone across Horsforth and Rawdon who voted for me, it is a huge privilege to continue for another term. Iā€™m grateful for the huge effort put in by our brilliant team of activists and Town Councillors who turn out in all weather all year round to get our message out, Neil my agent for running a brilliant campaign, my two Ward colleagues Cllrs Collins and Shemilt.

"I also pay tribute to Matt Leech, one of our Horsforth a Town Councillors who sadly passed away at the end of March. Matt was a well liked and integral part of our team who will be sorely missed by many."
