A WOMAN has made her first appearance before Bradford Crown Court charged with sending malicious communications to Bradford West MP Naz Shah and intending to pervert the course of public justice.
Sundas Alam, 30, of Princeville Street, Lidget Green, Bradford, denied all four charges put to her this morning and her trial was fixed to begin on October 25.
Alam, who wore a pink jumper for the short hearing, appeared before the court on a video link to HMP Newhall where she is remanded until the trial date.
She pleaded not guilty to three offences of sending an email to Naseem Shah on April 3 which conveyed a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient or to any other person to whom you intended that it or its contents or nature should be communicated, contrary to section 1(1)(a) and (4) of the Malicious Communications Act 1988.
Alam also denied intending to pervert the course of public justice on the same date by sending an email purporting to be from three other people who were then arrested by West Yorkshire Police.
Judge Jonathan Rose said the two-day trial must be heard by a Circuit Judge at Bradford Crown Court.
He told Alam to serve her defence statement on or by June 28.
She was remanded back into custody until the trial date.
