A MAN who allegedly sent a "grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message" online has had his trial delayed for legal advice.
William Claughton, 33, of Greenlea Avenue, Yeadon, appeared by video link at Sheffield Magistrates' Court last Wednesday (April 28).
He is accused of having sent a message by public electronic communications in Sheffield on November 8, 2019, that broke the law.
That is, it was "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character", contrary to Section 127(1)(a) and (3) of the Communications Act 2003.
The trial was adjourned so Mr Claughton can seek legal advice or representation before making a plea.
The case will be heard again on May 14 at Sheffield Magistrates' Court.
Police were issued with a warrant for arrest without bail at a previous hearing of the case on April 8, on the basis that the alleged offence is punishable with imprisonment if the defendant is 18 or older.
But this warrant was withdrawn at a subsequent hearing, on April 19.
