THE England Cricket Association for the Deaf (ECAD) is on the look out for talented cricketers in the Yorkshire region, including Bradford.

As part of its national talent ID programme, ECAD will be holding trials at Woodlands Cricket Club in Bradford on Saturday, May 29 from 9-11am.

Players aged 10 and above (including adults) who are deaf or hard of hearing, including signers, oral, cochlear or hearing aid users, are welcome to join trials to become a future star of ECAD’s North and Yorkshire Deaf teams.

ECAD was launched in 2002 and supports players from a wide range of backgrounds. The charity works closely with the ECB to promote Deaf Cricket across the UK and has produced players for England’s Deaf national teams.

At the top end of ECAD’s pathway (below the first XI), there are three regional teams who play friendly matches around once a month in the summer.

There is also an ECAD Academy team for younger players. This team generally plays one or two games per year and trains once a month over the winter.

Darren Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of England Cricket Association for the Deaf, said: “We are on the look out for talented young deaf cricketers to bolster our North and Yorkshire sides, who play games across the region.

“We can’t wait to hold our trials at the fantastic Woodlands Cricket Club facilities and identify some potential superstars of the future.

“ECAD provides deaf cricketers with a fantastic platform, where they can enhance their skills while playing against top sides across the country.

“We look forward to welcoming all trialists in a few weeks’ time.”
