FELL rescue was called out twice yesterday (Sunday) to help injured walkers.

The Grassington-based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) was called out for the second time at just before 6.30pm after a 32 year old man fell and injured his lower legs at the Cow and Calf, Ilkley.

An UWFRA spokesperson said: "Local team members were quickly on scene and performed an initial assessment and gave casualty care.

"Once the rest of the team had arrived the casualty's injuries were splinted, he was loaded onto a stretcher and carried to to the ambulance for onward transport to hospital."

Earlier, at just before 3.30pm, the team was called by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to attend a casualty with a suspected broken ankle located on a track a mile from the road at Denton.

The spokesperson said :"While the team was on route the casualty was driven to the ambulance by a member of the public in an all terrain vehicle and the team was stood down."
