AN Ilkley Town legend has sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer.

George Bloom was Ilkley through and through representing the club for over 30 years as a coach, Chairman and most recently President.

Like many parents, he started out coaching his son’s team, Town's under-10s. George had been a rugby player and it was his son's interest that got him involvement in local football.

George went on to undertake many voluntary roles for the club and was Chairman until 2008.

He stayed involved as President even though his ill health reduced the amount he could get involved with.

His contribution to football in Ilkley has been immense and his legacy will continue with players and coaches all benefitting from his efforts.

Ilkley Town Chairman, Richard Giles said "We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of George.

"He continued to attend our committee meetings up until quite recently and his passion and determination to see the club in a healthy position never changed even while he was managing his own ill health.

"He was a wonderful servant of football in Ilkley including Ilkley Town. Our thoughts are with George's family."
