BRADFORD has been named the most thanked city in Yorkshire and the Humber, according to a national Thank a Teacher campaign.

Following 12 months of pandemic learning, communities across the UK have been united in their gratitude to schools and teachers.

The Teaching Awards Trust is dedicated to facilitating moments of gratitude by allowing pupils, parents and colleagues to send virtual thank you cards to teachers and wider school staff.

In a fantastic accolade to the community, a virtual heatmap, which is based on the number of cards that have been sent through the Thank a Teacher website, revealed it was Bradford which came out on top when scanning the region.

The recognition for the hard work of teachers and school staff across the city has clearly not gone unnoticed.

This follows Birkenshaw's BBG Academy being highlighted as the second most thanked on the isles under the same campaign.

The Thank a Teacher campaign is a year-around effort, culminating in Thank a Teacher Day on June 16.

Mary Palmer, Chief Executive of the Teaching Awards Trust, said: "The Thank a Teacher campaign is all about spreading appreciation.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us all how incredible schools, teachers and support staff really are.

"The launch of our virtual heatmap has enabled us to publicly congratulate those cities and schools where the most thank yous have been exchanged.

"Thank you to everyone in Bradford who has been sending thank you cards to brilliant school staff members, and we encourage everyone to continue to send their own lovely messages.”
