From: Michael King, London W12
IN the late 1950s I wrote to this very paper praising the opportunities an extended runway would offer the then “Yeadon” airport. Possibly this was because of the wonderful air displays in the early 1950s that were held there. The noise of those Sabres. To pause the recently proposed development at the airport shows the short-sightedness that exists when assessing these projects sometimes. The next big thing in air travel will be short range journeys -up to 400 miles - with no carbon dioxide emissions. And very quiet ones too. The airport should ask for the go-ahead promising to focus on this. Partnering with Rolls Royce and other airports such as Newquay, Aberdeen, Paris, Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff, you get the drift.
