AN opportunity to follow the tradition of building cairns “for hope and remembrance” was offered in Ilkley on Good Friday.
The Rev Dr Roberta Topham, Minister of Christchurch in Ilkley said: “It was a bit chilly and windy but still the brightness of seeing friendly faces is what we can remember.
“Dozens of visitors of all ages, who arrived in family groups or as individuals, brought decorated stones, others were plain but they all carried meaning to those who laid them . It was a meaningful event in all kinds of ways.”
As part of a Churches Together in Ilkley initiative, there were opportunities to add to cairns outside All Saints and St John’s Churches.
At All Saints there was a different approach - involving beautiful embroidered hassocks.
