THE CONSERVATIVE candidate for Guiseley and Rawdon ward has told residents their safety will be the priority in the run up to the Leeds City Council elections on May 6.

With Government guidelines allowing door to door canvassing from March 8 Conservative candidate Paul Alderson and Guiseley and Rawdon’s three elected members Cllr Pat Latty, Cllr Graham Latty and Cllr Paul Wadsworth have taken the decision not to campaign door to door.

Mr Alderson, a Guiseley local and father of two, is standing in place of retiring councillor Pat Latty.

Mr Alderson said:"Although delivering our message for May’s local election is extremely important, we feel it is essential that residents feel safe within the vicinity of their homes.

"We would like everyone to understand why they will not be receiving a knock on the door this year to discuss the election. Please be assured we are working extremely hard to compensate and will continue to engage with residents via posted literature, telephone, email and social media. The safety of residents is at the forefront of our minds."

Cllr Pat Latty was first elected to Leeds City Council in 2010.
