A FUNDRAISING campaign has begun to install a memorial bench in Saltaire in memory of much-loved villager.

Iain Morris, an artist and Telegraph & Argus letter writer for many years, died aged 73 at his home in Caroline Street in January. Now it's hoped his legacy will live on in the village through 'The Talking Bench'.

Those behind the fundraising campaign said: "Iain loved to talk. He could always be seen and especially heard somewhere on Victoria Road.

"He seemed to know everyone and, if he didn't know someone it wasn't long before he did.

"A lovely, thoughtful and caring man who had time for everyone. We would like to show our appreciation of him in turn and create a space in memory of him, where people sit and meet and do what he was so well known for in the place he loved best.

"We are raising funds to buy a bench which will be called the 'The Talking Bench'.

"We hope to get Bradford Council's permission to put the bench in his favourite place, Victoria Road."
