Ilkley Town Council responds to Mr Andrew Loy’s letter (Public Consultation Call on Speed Zones, Gazette letters, February 25)

Ilkley Town Council's Transport and Rights of Way subcommittee meeting was held at 5.30 pm the same evening as the District Councillors' meeting Mr Loy refers to. The subcommittee meeting was publicly advertised (well in advance of the District Councillors' meeting) and an invitation issued to all residents through the Ilkley Gazette (Residents urged to have their say on 20mph zones in Ilkley, Ilkley Gazette, February 8th 2021), Ilkley Chat and the Town Council Facebook page. The meeting was held in public and public attendees were offered, during the meeting, an opportunity to express their opinion on 20 mph zones amongst other matters. It is factually inaccurate to state that 20 mph zones will be imposed by Ilkley Town Council. Legal responsibility for Highways rests with Bradford MDC and any plans for 20 mph zones will be subject to a full process of public consultation. Ilkley Town Council will continue to act as an informed consultee and partner in this process and continues to welcome the views of all residents.
