CITY’S Under-18s fell to a 3-0 defeat at Mansfield Town in the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division on Saturday.

The Stags netted three second-half goals, which turned out to be enough to see off the young Bantams.

The hosts had the first opportunity of the contest when the ball fell to Ethan Hill on the edge of the box, but he was denied by City shot-stopper Darryl Ombang.

The visitors’ best chance of the opening 45 minutes was when Olivier Sukiennicki went on a positive run but had his left-footed shot saved by Maison Campbell.

After a quiet first half, the Bantams came close to opening the scoring on the hour mark when the ball fell to skipper Charlie Wood, but his chipped attempt just missed the target.

The hosts broke the deadlock with just over 20 minutes left, when Shamar Lawson’s free-kick to the back post was bundled in by Diego Edwards.

The Stags doubled their advantage when a save by Ombang was followed up and volleyed into the back of the net by Jack Deakin.

The hosts added another in stoppage-time when a cutback to the edge of the penalty area was struck into the bottom corner by Hill.

The defeat means the young Bantams remain bottom of the table.
