AT the recent remotely-held Annual General Meeting, Ilkley Cricket Club President, Richard Simpson, paid tribute to outgoing Chairman, Nic Fearnley, who has stood down after 13 years as Chairman.

Richard said: “Nic had an amazing tenure as Chairman.

“He leaves a legacy of a much better clubhouse and all teams - both junior and senior - are in strong positions. His boots will be very difficult to fill.”

In his last address to the club, the Chairman told members in the comfort of their homes: “I have great memories of my time as Chairman.

“I have enjoyed every moment and given it my all, but I know it is the right time to step aside.

“I feel very proud of where we are as a team and where we have taken the club from 2008 to the present day.”

Nic gave particular praise to Mike Clegg and former Presidents Jim Scally and Peter Marshall for their great contributions to the club, as well as Club Secretary Brian Wheeler for his tireless efforts.

Brian commented that the club is in a very strong position because of the drive and energy that Nic brought to the club.

“His legacy will be the new clubhouse and a club that is well organised on and off the field,” he added.

The club will also be awarding The Nic Fearnley Trophy for the best senior performance of the year.

At present, the club will not elect a successor, and it is anticipated that once the season starts an appropriate man or woman will emerge.
