WHITCHURCH Rotary Club are hoping to end 2020 on a high by launching a photography competition to highlight the positives of the year as well as raise money for charity.

Although most would consider 2020 to be a write-off, the Rotary Club have launched a photography competition for people to focus on the positive memories from the year.

The competition is called '2020 in Focus' and is open for adults and under-18 photographers, whether they use expensive cameras or modest smartphones.

Participants are asked to submit photographs to the Rotary Club, paying £5 for adults and £2 for under-18s and all proceeds will be fed back into local charities and community causes.

There will be cash prizes and professionally framed prints for the overall winner as well as for the best photographs in adult and under-18 sections. And additional surprise awards may be announced later.

Club president Ian Fawcett says the photographs can be of anything and he hopes they will spark some positive memories.

"In most respects it's been the worst of times but we've often seen the best in our communities, too, so we hope that there will be some positive memories," said Ian. "The photos could be a Shropshire scene, a family pic, a holiday snap, a community event or even a wildlife shot.

"The closing date will be midnight on New Year's Eve – as we move into a new, and hopefully, better year.

"I hope we can learn a lot from the past year and carry memories forward that we'll remember for a long time."
