POLICE are warning residents in Aireborough, Horsforth and parts of Wharfedale to be wary of cold callers.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team for Leeds North West says it has noticed a recent increase in reports of ‘doorstep traders’ operating in the area - and targeting elderly householders.

Neighbourhood Support Officer Dan Pickles, in a message that has been sent out with an advice sheet that is being circulated, said: “We urge all residents to exercise caution when dealing with anyone who attempts to sell any product or service which has not been requested.

“Quite often these callers are claiming to work for large firms such as water and gas firms.

“Any legitimate employee of the large firms these traders claim to work for would have no issue showing some identification.”

Residents are also being reminded that they do not have to let anyone into their home and that they should not be afraid to say ‘no’.
