WHARFEDALE poets have contributed to a new collection of verse inspired by the Canterbury Tales.

Chevin Rouge - Slow Canter Merry Tales has been produced by Otley Troubadours and is available now, from feedaread.com, for £4.99 plus postage. It will also be available from Amazon and a number of similar sites from early December.

Editor Ben Lowe said: “Chevin Rouge was conceived a year ago after recent floods and drought.

“War is always with us even if often far away. Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, itself conceived as an antidote to war, plague, floods and drought, came to mind.

“We could not have known that a once in a century plague would descend upon us in February/March 2020 in the form of Covid-19.

“The arrival of such a terrible plague has made, in a sense, a collection of satirical, funny, though-provoking, witty, poignant, bawdy and even scatological tales that much more important.

“It has taken a year. And plenty of tears.

“But Otley, and indeed Leeds and Ilkley, are blessed with many excellent poets and slowly it came together.”
