PEOPLE in Ilkley are being invited to create a little Christmas magic by adding their work to an installation at the Manor House.

Hundreds of white paper snowflakes are needed to form part of the installation and organisers are hoping the public will play their part.

A spokeswoman said: “The Manor House has been awarded a grant from Bradford Council under the LIT light programme grants scheme.

“So, though the Manor House is closed to the public for the rest of the year we were keen to find ways of everyone still enjoying the space even if it is only from the outside. So the light installation in the house over the Christmas period, called ‘Peeping In’ with use light and sculptures to create some magical scenes.

“Part of this installation will be a snow scene in one of the downstairs rooms and to achieve this, we need hundreds of white paper snowflakes and we are turning to the community to help us make them.”

She added: “If you would like to be part of creating this installation just create a white paper snowflake to your own design or if you would like some help with the design we have put some templates on the Manor House website for you to download and use. The paper to use is just simple printer paper (80gsm) or even a lighter weight paper is OK and tissue paper is fine too. The important thing is the snowflakes have to be white.

“When you have made your snowflakes pop them in an envelope and post them through the letterbox at the Manor House and we will add them to the display.”

“If you have any questions about the plans, please email events@ilkleymanorhouse.org.”

The decision was taken to close the house from October 17, partly because of the risks to volunteer stewards and also because it was only possible to safely open the downstairs of the building which diminished the experience for visitors.

Organisers are now trying to make the most of the outdoor space.

Bard in the Yard was held in August in conjunction with Ilkley Playhouse. The Playhouse has already booked the August bank holiday weekend 2021 for more performances.

The Lempen Puppet Theatre ran a series of four short performances in October and is hoping to hold further performances in December.

The Manor House is working with Ilkley Playhouse to run a series of pop up courtyard performances on Sundays during December, restrictions permitting.

There are also plans for outdoor exhibitions in early 2021.
