MARTIN Lewis has prompted a major Sainsbury's U-turn over its pre-Christmas Nectar card promotion.

The money saving expert criticised a promotion - which allows customers to double their points to spend on key lines like clothing and electricals - and said it forces customers to visit stores during the lockdown.

The promotion sees customers issued vouchers but they can only be redeemed in-store between Wednesday 11 and Tuesday 17 November and not online.

On his moneysavingexpert.com website Martin urged Sainsbury's to think again.

And the company has done just that.

Shoppers defined as 'clinically extremely vulnerable' who have already redeemed Nectar points to use in its 'double-up' event will now be able to swap them for double points to use at any time.

Sainsbury's has agreed to allow 'clinically extremely vulnerable' customers to swap back any points already exchanged if they're unable to go into a store. And they can hold on to the doubled points value to spend after lockdown.

Martin Tweeted: "I'm pleased to say after a virtual meeting with @sainsburys high-ups yesterday they've agreed those who are extremely clinically vulnerable will get a double refund on their cards."
