UNMANNED poppy stalls have been set up at Guiseley and Yeadon Morrisons to allow fundraising to go ahead whilst meeting Covid regulations.
Poppy appeal organiser Elsie Turner was told no-one would be allowed to sell poppies from a stall this year. But the supermarket stepped in to allow fundraising to continue with honesty boxes in place.
Elsie, who has sold poppies in the Guiseley store since 1983 said: “This year is a challenge for us all, but we are learning to adapt to help get the funds to help our armed forces personnel past and present. Our usual volunteers are not able to man the stalls and are extremely disappointed, but the management and champion staff in both stores are very supportive and helpful, they are looking after the stalls themselves.”
