A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a boy suffered life-changing injuries in an unprovoked attack.
Earlier this month, officers investigating the incident, which took place at a newsagents on Wigan Road in Leyand, released a CCTV image of a man they wanted to speak with.
Following the appeal, a 17-year-old boy from Chorley was arrested in connection with the attack but was later released under investigation pending further enquiries.
At the time, police said the teenage victim had been buying sweets at the newsagents when he was punched in the mouth by a stranger, suffering a fractured jaw and losing several teeth.
The attacker then left the newsagents before walking across the road towards Tesco.
A spokesperson for the police said: "Earlier this month we released a CCTV image of a male we wanted to speak to after a teenage boy suffered life-changing injuries in an unprovoked attack at a newsagents on Wigan Road, Leyland, around 4pm on October 10.
"A 17-year-old boy from Chorley has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident and later released under investigation pending further enquiries.
"Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal for information."
