COMMUNITY help is needed this weekend to help with spring bulb planting.
Climate Action Ilkley volunteers will be under planting the fruit trees at the community orchards in Ilkley and Ben Rhydding with hundreds of wild daffodil and snowdrop bulbs. These will flower in spring and help to provide nectar for hungry bees, encouraging them into the orchards to pollinate the fruit trees. It will also make the orchards look more attractive for the residents of Ilkley.
The fruit trees on both sites have all survived the summer, despite the very dry conditions in spring, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who watered them all during lockdown.
Climate Action Ilkley would like to invite anyone who lives in Ilkley or Ben Rhydding to come and help out with this bulb planting.
A spokesperson said: “We will have family/individual bubbles around trees, to ensure sufficient social distancing. Children are very welcome with an adult. Please also bring a trowel, spade or bulb planter with you if you can. We will be planting at the Ben Rhydding site on Saturday, October 17 from 10am - 11:30 am, and at the East Holmes site on Sunday, October 18 from 10am -11:30am.”
