DETAILS of this year’s Poppy Appeal in Otley have been announced.

Volunteers for the Otley branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding a stall at the Buttercross on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, November 7.

British Legion 2020 and VE Day pins and other merchandise will be on sale.

Collections in the town this year, meanwhile, will be different from usual to comply with the social distancing regulations that are in force to tackle the coronavirus.

Local appeal organiser Shirley Vincent said: “Circumstances dictate that we are unable to collect in supermarkets this year due to social distancing and the safety of our volunteers and the general public.

“We will be collecting in certain shops and pubs but are limited to the number we can ask.”

Poppy wreaths are also available - for more details contact Shirley on (01943) 466874.

Last year’s Poppy Appeal efforts in Otley raised more than £19,000.

The appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign and its proceeds help support serving or ex British service personnel including those have been injured on duty.
